DEPUTIES: Suspect dresses as doctor to escape hospital


IN NORTHWEST FLORIDA, A MAN CHARGED WITH SELLING DRUGS NEAR A SCHOOL IS NOW IN MORE TROUBLE. OKALOOSA COUNTY DEPUTIES SAY JAMES JENKINS TRIED TO MAKE A GETWAY BY DISGUISING HIMSELF AS A DOCTOR! NEWS 5’S CODY LONG HAS MORE FROM CRESTVIEW. DEPUTIES BROUGHT THE MAN HERE TO NORTH OKALOOSA MEDICAL CENTER TO BE EVALUATED WHEN HE COMPLAINED OF HAVING CHEST PAINS… HE IS 71 YEAR OLD JAMES JENKINS JUNIOR FROM FORT WALTON BEACH. HE HAD AN ACTIVE WARRANT FOR SELLING OPIUM WITHIN A THOUSAND FEET OF A SCHOOL…DEPUTIES PULLED HIM OVER ON STILLWELL BOULEVARD.. HE WAS BROUGHT HERE TO THE HOSPITAL TO BE EVALUATED.. WHILE WAITING FOR DISCHARGE PAPERWORK TO BE FINISHED..DEPUTIES SAY JENKINS LEFT HIS ROOM DRESSED AS A DOCTOR WEARING BLUE SCRUBS AND A STETHOSCOPE…AND HE RAN OUT OF THE EMERGENCY ROOM DOORS. DEPUTIES SAY HE IGNORED THEIR COMMANDS TO STOP BUT HE WAS QUICKLY TAKEN BACK INTO CUSTODY.. THE HOSPITAL STAFF SAYS THE SCRUBS DID NOT BELONG TO THEM…JENKINS TOLD STAFF SOMEONE BROUGHT THE SCRUBS TO HIM. NOW IN ADDITION TO THE NARCOTICS CHARGE, HE’S CHARGED WITH RESISTING ARREST AND ESCAPE.
